Ania tersed up, slightly on the defensive, "No. I am a descendent of Lady Valeska. Lord knows I have very little respect for the Count. She knew him as human- as vampire he has fed off of my friends for years. I have lost much to him and don't much care for him lest he is killed...it would make my life and this task from my ancestors that much easier. A groupie does not want the object of her affection killed- she also has to actually have some affection towards the person...."

***Jason Traxx*** "Yet here you are the only human in a place filled with vampires question begs to be asked why here among things that can kill you?"

"I live a life on the outer edge of society, friended more by trees than by humanoids- I am an herbalist, the church is not fond of me, and I live most of my life surrounded by plants. Sometimes, a little danger is needed to keep one from becoming complacent and taking living for granted. This place, no matter how deadly, is the only oppulance I see- many of the churches call me witch and do not let me near their beauty and treasures- sometimes it is nice to see the artistry of what has been created by hands in addition to the untamed sublimity of the forest at night. This castle of darkness and death is, in a way, my glimpse of daylight...metaphorically speaking, that is."

***Jason Traxx*** "It's just another castle, I've seen many in my travels they do not impress me" came the flat reply "the pair of Colts in my holsters impress me. Their creator was a man of fine craftsmenship."

Ania nodded, "To a woman of little travels, this castle still is impressive, as it holds family history. Weaponry is indeed impressive- the manners our cultures have come up with in order to kill one another are many and, in some cases, very complex. I am not saying I do not appreciate the ingenuity and effort put into a well made gun or edged weapon, but I do not advocate the light use of them that human society has reached. Would you like to show me your weapons, sir? I would be very appreciative if you would show me the artwork they are."

***Jason Traxx*** He shrugged then drew one of the Peacemakers with incredible speed and then calmly handed it to her. "Guns and Knives and other weapons don't kill people their just the instrument its the person using them that's often the problem in my experience." "Of course I was also a soldier before being turned during the American Civil War bad time that, so I don't have much care for all the other stuff."

"You have a lovely draw- no doubt you are skilled with these."
She took the weapon gently and turned it over in her hands with great reverence, "Absolutely beautiful...you have cared well for this- blessings to you for it." She handed the gun back to him, "I've always preferred edged weaponry, but then again, I am not the best when it comes to combat, if you hadn't figured. I am more of an artisan than a warrior of any right."
She tilted her head, "You were in the American Civil War? Not much news of that war filtered all the way out here- we heard snippets from travellers and traders, but out here in the middle of the Carpathians...we are relatively sheltered from most of the world."

***Jason Traxx*** Traxx smiled a little "thank you kindly ma'am. Rather pride tools like these out west. Can save a man or a lady's life. Used to have a saber though that broke while I was hunting a bear." He nodded once "was a lieutenant in the Union army. A scout and tracker, was in many campaigns lot of blood was shed to protect people who shouldn't have been enslaved. That's my opinion ma'am." "Was also a scout and tracker afterwards as well. Fought alongside people against indians such as the Commanche(spelling?), Apache and others." "Also speak their languages, understand their customs as well."

Ania smiled, "Ah, the sabre- beautiful sword- I have one my father had made for him on a trip to England before my birth. It was a sword that served him well later in his life. My mother's gun was burried with her, at her insistance...she died with it in her hands."
She paused, "Hunting a bear? My, that must be an amazing story! I do not know much of hunting...especially not of anything so large!"
Ania glanced down at the crowded ballroom floor, "All people deserve to live their lives as they will, harming as few as possible- especially those truly innocent. I am an idealist, true, and, as I said before, a loner, so, of course, my philosophy oft fall well short of the rest of the world. I have heard that the natives of that land have very interesting cultures...though here they are treated more like show-animals than humans. It is distressing the way some people are treated in the name of assimilation. It is wonderful that you took the time to understand the people you were with." She turned back in his direction, "I have attempted to learn a little about the Roma, but they are so distrusting sometimes due to the way they have been marginalised that they are a difficult culture to get to know...I have not given up hope, however...."
She shifted her weight to lean back against a pillar.

***Jason Traxx*** "Sometimes they are of course back before the colonists came when the indians settled there were conflicts between different nations. Most bloodthirsty group I know of would be the Aztecs the things that they did were rather frightening." He shrugged "I myself personally feel that there should actually be a set of guidlines in war all should follow but not everyone thinks that way." With a chuckle he smiled a little "I've known people who were not only Indians or Union soldiers but also Confederates as well. I myself don't hate anyone I simple do what I'm paid to do. Back then it was serving and protecting others."

Ania gave a nod in his direction, "People do what they have to to survive- when they are in harsh circumstance, be it brought on by nature or by others, they do harsh things to accomplish that."
She sighed, "Rules of engagement that were actually followed would be a definate benifit to fighters from all sides- but you are right, many do not follow that train of thought- many think that inflicting the most damage of military and civilian is the goal.... Every person has value- if they did not and only the one's who thought similarly or were on the same side of something were to group together, you and I would not be having this conversation. Variety, however, is the spice of our lives...or non-lives, whichever the case may be...what do the undead call their time still walking? I have always been curious as to such."

***Jason Traxx*** "I know many who would follow that train of thought unfortunatly the ones who don't are the ones who are used as a sterotype as for walking I call it walking."

Ania shook her head and, for a moment, let her colloquial side slip through, "You're a bit of a smart-ass, aren't you?" She was amused and made no show in hiding it, "You know what I was trying to say- you aren't alive, but the verb is used all the time to describe...well, being- is there something else vampires use? Saying, 'I undead on Ridge Road' doesn't quite have the same ring as 'I live on Ridge Road'- do you folks use the same word, for ease of understanding, or do you have your own word for it? I'm just curious- better to ask questions than to assume wrongly and offend."
She absent-mindedly adjusted her lace back off her shoulder to keep her face and shoulders covered. She knew her identity would be no secret to anyone there- she was the strange woman who lived on her own out near the woods and her name or face would make no difference were she found out by others less gracious than...she paused her thoughts- she did not remember his name- had they introduced one another?
Ania tilted her head, "Speaking of asking questions, did we ever introduce ourselves? I do not recall and it would be very nice to have something to address you by, now and if we meet again."
